Size and habitat characteristics of a population of Parnassius stubbendorfii in Hövsgöl province, Mongolia

Little published information exists on the ecology of Stubbendorf’s Apollo (Parnassius stubbendorfii Ménétries, 1849), a species listed as threatened in Mongolia. To help fill this gap, we provide population size estimate and habitat characteristics for P. an area just west Lake Khubsgul, On July 6 7, 2020 used aerial nets to capture mark individuals using fine-tipped, permanent marker then size. We further estimated vegetative richness, abundance, percent cover stubendorfii habitat. 2,059.21 ±234.03 SD butterflies at time our sampling. Grasses, sedges, willows dominated plots with butterfly’s Habitat was patchy, each subplot characterized by different community. found only one larval host plant, namely fewflower fumewort (C. pauciflora). noted feeding adult stubbendorfi several plants, especially including important nectaring plants stone parsley (Schultzia crinite) sweet vetch (Hedysarum inundatum).
